At S. C. Corinthians LA, the players have a role responsibility. They need to add value to the team. But in the flip side of that coin, the team is the vehicle for the individuals to develop especially in the youth space. The players needs the team as much as team needs the players. And, it’s our job, working in the youth sector, to ensure we are maximizing the growth potential of all players withing our respective teams and squads.
Our training methodology is carefully planned, and here is the only place you can find these 3 styles of futsal together, to improve our player’s athletic skills and to promote their social and personal growth. Through innovative techniques and tested practices, we prepare our pupils to succeed in and out of the field.
The benefits of having and internationally experienced Head Coach is that we incorporate in our “Corinthians Style,” a mix of the beautiful and happy Brazilian Joga Bonito mixed with the technical and game controlling Spanish Tiki-Taka and classy, intense and organized European style of playing futsal.
Coach Valerio Sanchez Kikuchi, was born and raised playing futsal in Brazil, in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Internationally, he lived in Japan (2 years) and Spain (10 years) before moving to California.
The idea behind S. C. Corinthians LA is to bring futsal closer to our youth, and also, to make the futsal community stronger in our LA area.

Chidren are not empty vessels. There is no place for such ideas of emptiness in 21st century pedagogy.
At S. C. Corinthians LA the kids will be learn autonomy, critical reflection and decision making, rather than viewing them as passive receptacles for information.
Brazilian Joga Bonito
Brazilian’s unique, rhythmic style – “play beautifully.” Brazilian style prioritizes control and creativity, cultivating ‘soccer artists’ who blend tactical understanding and technical proficiency, transforming soccer into a joyful spectacle.
Spanish Tiki-Taka
While keeping possession is critical for success, players continue to play with an attacking mentality, and also regathering the ball quickly when possession is lost. If our opponents don’t have the ball, they can’t score.
European Style
It’s true, there is not only one “European Style” of futsal! Typically, they are disciplined, unrelenting, and fierce in everything they do. But, we can highlight characteristics of some of their leagues, like Germany’s clinical efficiency, British physicality, and Italy’s defensive mastery in catenaccio.
FUTSAL
What’s Futsal?
Futsal is an exciting, fast-paced small sided soccer game that is played across the world and is officially
recognized by both FIFA and UEFA.
Futsal earned the status of FIFA’s official form of indoor soccer in the 1980s as it was recognized as a
scaled down version of outdoor soccer played indoors. It is a 5 v 5 small-sided game played on a hard
surfaced, basketball sized court with a smaller, low bounce ball. Futsal is played with touchline
boundaries and without walls.
The small amount of space means players must have great technique and skill in high pressure
situations which can be translated into the outdoor game. and as well as a professional sport in its own
right with national and international championships, it is also considered a development tool for 11-aside soccer. The sport is a great skill developer as it demands quick reflexes, fast thinking and pinpoint passing.
Futsal is played in all the continents of the world by over 100 countries with more than 12 million
players. Great soccer superstars such as Pele, Zico, Ronaldo, Messi, Iniesta, Ronaldinho and
Cristiano, grew up playing the game and credit futsal with developing their skills.
Why Futsal?
The top priority of futsal, and S. C. Corinthians LA is to motivate players in an environment that is
conducive to learning. The more pleasure kids derive from their participation, the more they wish to
play and practice on their own. While their instinct to play is natural, their affection and appreciation
for the game must be cultivated.
Here is why kids should play futsal:
Improves Technical Skills
Futsal is played on a smaller, enclosed court with a heavier ball, encouraging more touches and precise control. This enhances dribbling, passing, and shooting abilities significantly compared to traditional soccer.
Enhances Decision-Making
The fast-paced nature of futsal requires quick thinking and rapid decision-making. Players learn to anticipate movements, strategize in tight spaces, and react swiftly, which translates well to other sports and life situations.
Promotes Creativity and Agility
Futsal fosters creativity as players are constantly challenged to find innovative ways to maneuver around opponents and create scoring opportunities. It also improves agility, balance, and coordination due to the close control and frequent changes in direction.
Encourages Teamwork and Communication
Teamwork is fundamental in futsal, where players must collaborate closely to maintain possession and defend effectively. Communication skills are honed as players coordinate movements, call for passes, and support each other on both offense and defense.
Futsal is the foundation to such goals because it:
- Allows players to frequently touch the ball.
- Presents many opportunities to score goals and score goals often.
- Encourages regaining possession of the ball as a productive, fun and rewarding part of the game (defending).
- Maximizes active participation and minimizes inactivity and boredom.
- Reflects the philosophy of player development expressed in state and national coaching schools.
- Eliminates complicated rules such as off-sides that may hinder youngsters from "playing".
